Meet George Foster of Foster Green Design Build in Albany Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Foster.

Thanks for sharing your story with us George. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana with a degree in Finance concentration in Real Estate from the college of business. My first job out of college was with a commercial general contractor working in the accounting department. In 1997, I was approached by a college friend that asked if I would like to work with him in the development of 40 single family homes on the near south side of Chicago in the Bronzeville community. During my tenure in the development of these new homes, we also sold the homes utilizing my Illinois Brokers License earned right after graduation. Once the development was completed, I was hooked and had a great desire to continue building. In 2005, I was recognized by Residential Design Build magazine as an up and coming home builder. I continued to build another 14 homes and currently, I utilize my skills in both the new construction and remodeling space providing design and build services for a residential clientele. To keep my skills sharp, I later earned an Illinois Home Inspection license giving me the ability to not only build a home but to diagnose potential problems.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth ride, in 2006 at the beginning of the real estate downturn, I had to close my office, move back home and ride out the real estate title wave. Along with business issues, I also went through personal challenges with the breaking up of my home. I was divorced in 2006 and had to start over again both in business and at home.

Please tell us about Foster Green Design Build.
Foster Green Design Build is a residential construction company that specializes in the design and construction of residential property. Our services include the design and build of homes, additions, kitchen, bath and other living spaces. We self-perform rough and finish carpentry including the supply of cabinetry and storage design. We are known in the industry for honesty and integrity. What sets us apart from others in this industry is we don’t speak of being different we are different.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite memories was visiting my grandparents in Virginia and seeing all of my cousins.
