Meet Frank Bonafilia of Edison Awards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Bonafilia.

Frank, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For the last 30 years, the Edison Awards have served as a platform to annually recognize and honor the teams responsible for creating and marketing the best new products and services from around the world. Our most prestigious award, the Edison Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have made a significant and lasting contribution to innovation and human-centered design throughout their careers. The awards are named after Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) whose extraordinary new product and market development methods garnered him 1,093 U.S. patents and made him a household name across the world. The Edison Awards symbolize the persistence and excellence personified by Thomas Edison, while also strengthening the drive for innovation, creativity, and ingenuity.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We take a lot of pride in recognizing the best in “game-changing” innovation on an annual basis; this means we need to have expert judges who review and debate all of the nominees in every category to determine if they rise to the top and are “Edison” worthy.

Every year we start a new discovery process and search the globe for new products and services that are designed to make our lives that much better. The discovery process and review process is labor intensive and has to be extensive to maintain the prestige of the coveted Edison Award.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Edison Awards – what should we know?
The Edison Awards are part of Edison Universe, a 501(c) (3), with the mission of recognizing, honoring and fostering innovation and innovators to create a positive impact in the world.

I am proud of our team’s ability to grow the platform and pull together some of the world’s top minds on an annual basis to celebrate their success and educate attendees on the future of NEXT. Over half of our attendees are industry leaders (C-Suite) and rarely get out to events because they are laser focused on making the world a better place through innovation.

Our annual event in New York is where great minds, funding, and partnership opportunities come together.
