Meet Felicity Joy Solomon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicity Joy Solomon.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My story is one of success over low self-esteem. Most people never think about the fact that praise is judgmental. I was raised receiving a lot of praise. I craved it and at the same time I happened to be doing many things that people found praise worthy, getting good grades, staying out of trouble, excelling in some extracurricular activities. But after attending Princeton University (also considered praise worthy) all of that changed when I decided to pursue an acting career. Why couldn’t I just take my degree and get a real job like everybody else?

Great question! I would often ask it myself as I struggled in fulfilling my long-time dream of being a talk show host. Indeed I patterned myself after Oprah Winfrey when I was very young. I believed what happened to her could happen to me. I also believe my Creator had a unique plan for me. I would often consult him and receive the same answer that I was not to pursue work that would distract from my opportunities.

Twenty-seven years later I am enjoying “overnight success.” My first movie opened two weeks ago, a short film name “Reflections.” It won two awards at a local art festival. And I am in production for The Felicity Joy show which will air on Roku this fall. All of this because I mostly didn’t give up! At least I didn’t give up enough to ruin my destiny.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is performance based. I mostly dance and act, though I sometimes sing with my children. We call it The JoSo Trio. Whatever I do, I do it to elicit freedom in those who watch. When I dance I want people to remember that they were created for movement; when I sing it’s a message proclaiming good news; and my talk show is to encourage people to discover and live their God given purpose.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
My advice is to believe in yourself, believe in the gifts you’ve been given and the One who gave them to you! Only listen to people that believe in you. I appreciate differences, but I wish in my early adult life I would have appreciated my own uniqueness more.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
People can follow my Facebook page Felicity Joy Speaks, where I continually post updates of our upcoming productions as well as the things I’m leaving about. And The Felicity Joy Show will be shown on the Roku network.
