Meet Ellie Nottoli of elliestyled in Lake Forest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellie Nottoli.

Ellie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
elliestyled was born from two converging elements — #1 my professional background in retail merchandising and styling, and #2 my passion for home entertaining. When I found myself at a transitional point in life, I followed the urging of countless friends and launched elliestyled.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a road full of surprise, delight, and growth. The way I look at it, every bump is an opportunity to do better.

Early on, I realized I couldn’t do this alone and hired a business manager to take care of the administrative duties, which protected my creative energy and enabled me to do what I’m best at. Similarly, I’m adamant about partnering with high-quality vendor colleagues. We all shine in our specialties, which results in the best possible outcome for the client.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I design eclectic and unexpected themes for events and spaces. My clients range from couples saying their vows on the beach, to parents in search of something beyond the conventional character party pack for their child’s special birthday. I delight in creating on-trend yet approachable weddings, home gatherings, birthdays, and intimate dinner parties. In addition, my work can be seen in numerous North Shore shops and salons, where I collaborated with retail owners to construct the perfect look and feel for their space.

My relationship with each client begins with a consultation meeting. Sometimes, this idea marathon launches a do-it-yourself inclined client, but typically, it’s the start of a partnership where I immediately turn to select vendors to curate colors, textures, and experiences. It’s important that the florist, caterer, invitation designer, musicians, and even the contortionist troupe (yes, it’s happened) all work within the client’s vision to create a cohesive and beautiful final result.

What were you like growing up?
I was a playful, silly tomboy. I loved playing in the woods and even created a club for my friends called the Secret Explorers (membership included a custom sweatshirt with an image of our hideout depicted in the puffy paint). Overall, my childhood was heavily influenced by nature. That really comes through in my event and space styling today. And I could never sit down. (I still can’t!)
