Today we’d like to introduce you to Elektra Musich and John Landin.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We met while working in the same studio. We both connected over a shared passion for glass, and enjoyed creating and teaching together. After a few years we eventually found ourselves at the point where we wanted a studio of our own. It didn’t take long to settle on Lincoln Square, it was close to home and the neighborhood Elektra grew up in. After finding the space, we jumped in head first and haven’t looked back.
Has it been a smooth road?
All things considered, we were very fortunate to have had a rather easy road to opening our business. We were definitely both unprepared fully for the process involved in opening a business, but we were fortunate to find wonderful people who helped us along the way.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Everlasting Fire Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
For us, Everlasting Fire Studio is our space to bring lamp work glass to everyone in an open, friendly, and creative environment. We are definitely known for our holiday blown ornament class, and locally we are known for bringing our mobile glass setup to street festivals. We find it a great engagement tool, and helps us explain our medium to those who have found that glass has been a mystery. For us, it is important that people know about lamp work glass, and feel like there is a community that welcomes them no matter their skill level or their area of focus. We feel like we were able to achieve that. From selling glass materials, teaching workshops, space rentals for those wishing to explore on their own, and finally, a place that we can share with others who love glass as we do.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the diversity of Chicago. That can encompass everything from food, activities, communities, and experiences. We can learn a lot from all of the people that call Chicago home, and we love that our business brings people into our world for us to have that kind of exchange. And in terms of what we like least, we’d have to pick traffic.
