Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Carrella.
Edward, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started with our owners traveling abroad in Europe. They fell in love with Irish Hospitality and the authentic cottage style pubs in Ireland.
When they came back they decided they had to open one up. So they built the Kerry Piper in 1998 and brought over authentic artifacts from Ireland such as authentic bricks that make up our hearth and archway from a castle in Ireland.
After opening the Kerry Piper we purchased the Pete Miller’s Concept in Evanston and Muldoon’s Irish Pub in Wheaton. After those were taken over we opened Nevin’s Brewing Company in Plainfield.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have certainly had our ups and down. The restaurant business is always a tough business. The early years were successful, but with growth in the restaurant industry in the last 10 years, we find ourselves having to relevant ourselves.
In the last couple of years, we have rebranded and remodeled our restaurants to stay competitive. We feel in the next 10 years will be just as successful as the first 10 years.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Kerry Piper – what should we know?
We are Sonas Hospitality and we own and operate the Pete Miller’s Steakhouse in Evanston and Naperville, Muldoon’s Irish Pub in Wheaton, The Kerry Piper Irish Pub in Willowbrook and the Nevin’s Brewing Company in Plainfield. We also distribute our beer in the Chicagoland area under the brand Midnight Pig Beer.
We are a diverse restaurant group that specializes in great food, great service all in an atmosphere that is unmatched. I am most proud of the culture of our company, we have a great staff that works so hard in making our restaurants great. Our people are our greatest resource and that’s what sets us apart from anyone else.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
Honestly, I truly believe that we make our own luck. Somethings are out of our control but for the most part, our mindset is that we control our own success. We understand that what we put into our business is what we get out. The luck of the Irish always plays a role in our brands but as a business, we hope to achieve that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…
