Meet Dr. Sooniti J Weems of Well With My Soul Holistic Health Center in Old Irving Park Community

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sooniti J Weems.

Dr. Weems, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My parents always preached “don’t be like the Joneses: be a leader, not a follower and get an education”. It was those words, coupled with my desire to help others that has me where I am today. As a result, I did well in school, held leadership roles academically as well as professionally and began my career in healthcare over 20 years ago.

After graduating with my Bachelors in Applied Psychology, I worked as an Assertive Outreach Worker, helping the mentally challenged live productive lives in their communities. However, my thirst for knowledge inspired a pursuit into a dual Masters Degree program, receiving a Masters Degree in Divinity and Social Work.

Becoming quite ill in 2010, months were spent seeing multiple doctors on a weekly basis. With very little communication among my doctors and unanswered questions, caused much frustration with allopathic medicine. Out of my frustration, natural forms of healing were sought and my health began to improve. This experience was a turning point in my life, in which my focus changed and my feet were firmly planted on the path to gain a doctorate degree in Naprapathic Medicine. Having completed this program, with even greater health, it is now one of my life’s missions to bring this form of healing to others.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like most others, there have been struggles. They include but not limited to finances and health challenges. Health challenges have been the most challenges and while some of these issues have been identified and treated, others have issues are present without a determined cause.

Although these struggles are present, they serve as a positive purpose in my life, being a driving force to expel in the path and discipline of Naprapathic Medicine. Instead of the impediments being a barrier, they have caused me to gain more education and knowledge by which my skills are improved, thereby empowering me to offer the very best possible care to those served, especially were the need is the greatest.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Well With My Soul Holistic Health Center story. Tell us more about the business.
Well With My Soul Holistic Health Center offers non-invasive treatments that aids the body’s natural ability to heal itself from pains caused by connective tissue disorder, lifestyle and diet. Some common conditions include: headaches, neck, low back, shoulder and joint pain, as well as Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, Muscle Spasms. TMJ, Repetitive Motion Syndrome, Sprains and Strains, just to name a few.

In order to aid the body, we offer services such as Naprapathic Medicine, Nutritional Counseling and Complementary Therapies such as Massage Therapy, Wellness Coaching, Energy Healing and Natural/Wholefood Supplements.

What sets up apart from others is the fact that Naprapathy (Naprapathic Medicine) is a well-kept secret that has been around for decades. It is all natural and does not require surgery. Similar to a Chiropractor, we treat your spine. However, our primary focus, like Massage/Physical Therapists, is soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons, and other structures of the body) thereby restoring function, improving mobility and relieving pain.

What makes me the proudest it that some patients can receive relief in just after a few sessions and go for extended periods of time without experience pain or side effects from medication.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Research suggests that integrative medicine is very rapidly becoming a widely recognized form of treatment for the future. It appears that within the next 5-10 years more people will be looking for health solutions that do not require surgery or medication and is cost effective.

Some medical insurance companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield are blazing the path in complementary medical treatment by currently setting aside funds for integrative medicine. Hopefully within the next 5-10 years, many of the other medical insurance companies will follow suite, embracing integrative medicine, providing monetary resources in their policies so that those who at present cannot afford this form of medical care, will be able to in the very near future. Perhaps this will prompt traditional care hospitals to not only realize the need for integrative medical care but will embrace Naprapathy and Massage Therapy, just to name a few and incorporate these services in their treatment plans for their consumers. Just imagine how that interdisciplinary team would look!!!
