Meet Donna Price of CRE8 Workshop in Deerfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Price.

Donna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been a teacher. Started my career path teaching deaf children. When I started my own family, I took part time positions as a preschool teacher and a college supervisor of student teachers in deaf education. In 1997, my husband and I purchased a franchise called Mad Science where we ran parties, classes and school programs getting kids excited about science. We ran that business for 15 years. I have also always been a crafter with a passion for theater, designing and building sets and props. I am always looking for that next fun creative project to try.

After selling Mad Science in 2010, I needed something new to keep me busy. I attended a paint and sip class with my now grown daughter in Boston. We had a great time but my thought process asked, “how many times will I go to a place to paint mediocre paintings?” I wanted a place where I could go and make different things every time I went. CRE8 Workshop was started to become that place.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been lots of obstacles. First was finding an affordable space that still had exposure and easy access and parking. I wanted to stay close to home but still have an attractive space. That proved to be a much bigger expense than I anticipated.

My thoughts when opening CRE8 were that it would attract adults looking for a fun outing. I was surprised when the concept caught on with the kids first. It has been a battle getting the adults to come in and we are still working on increasing attendance in our adult classes and book more private parties (baby showers, bridal showers, corporate parties, etc)

Please tell us about CRE8 Workshop.
CRE8 Workshop is a creative arts crafting studio. We do instruction in many different types of crafts for children as well as adults. We offer classes, private parties and open crafting time. People can come in to the studio and choose the project they want to try and our staff will provide the materials and instruction to help them to complete the project. All projects are geared towards beginner crafters so easily done by anyone. We also host birthday parties for children and adults, baby showers, bridal showers, girls’ night out, and corporate team building.

We stress that every artist has their own idea of what colors and patterns they like so our instruction provides lots of opportunities to make choices of colors and materials to please anyone’s tastes. Each CRE8 project is unique and one of a kind.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
