Today we’d like to introduce you to DeLisa New Williams.
DeLisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started with a dream and a layoff. I’ve always written stories, poems, and wanted to start my own shirt line, but it wasn’t until I was laid off in 2010 that I began this journey of entrepreneurship and being an author I was destined and caller for.
Many sleepless nights, learning software, making countless mistakes which helped become better; truly helped me grow my custom apparel and rhinestone company.
Throughout the years, the desire to write, inspire, and help others continued to passionately grow inside of me. Today, I just published my 3rd book, “No Longer Am I A Baby Mama” and I’m excited about this purpose filled adventure God and I are making moves together!
Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not! But anything worth having is worth fighting for. I believe if the road was easy, I wouldn’t really value or appreciate it as much. When you’ve sacrificed a much to build and grow a solid foundation, you don’t let that go too easily.
Some struggles were time. Being a newlywed when I first started my business, mother, and experiencing a layoff, there were some trials I experienced in our finances as well. Spending so much time with a new business and being dedicated to seeing that grow, I put my marriage on the back burner at times. It was a hard lesson to learn, but God has allowed my story and testimony to help so many other wives not do the same in their business.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The hem of His Garment Custom Apparel, The Wives Talk, and Author DeLisa New Williams story. Tell us more about the business.
The hem of His Garment Inc is a custom apparel and rhinestone company. We handle everything from silk screen to vinyl to rhinestones. In most proud of how God has allowed my business to increase every year. I love how my customers have turned into family. We care about our customers and they’re more than just a check to us, we really want to see them happy and their businesses/apparel lines grow. If a customer contacts me and says she needs a shirt for cancer or an illness, we pray and lay hands over those shirts. I believe my company has healing power just like Jesus did when the women touched the hem of His garment and was made whole.
My books are all about faith, inspiration, being fulfilled, and made whole. My first book, “Mommy, Where is Jesus? Is He hiding in my room?” was a children’s book and kids absolutely love the vivid illustrations and stories about God inside. My second book is a compilation book called, “It’s Just Highschool” for teen girls full of stories to help set them on the right track for life. And the third book, “No Longer Am I A Baby Mama” is a self-help book for single mothers and co-parents alike helping women overcome the bitter, anger, and pain from their past relationships so they can be better mother but ultimately purpose filled women!
My next business is The Wives Talk, a media talk/radio show where our mission is we’re committed to saving marriages, one wife at a time! We currently have a weekly radio show that airs every Wednesday night on www.wllfradio.com at 7:30pm.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Most definitely and with God speed! The apparel industry is growing and everyone want to add shirts to their businesses and brands.
Marriages are happening every day; however, divorce is increasing too. With more marriages seeking answers and help to stay and fight for their spouses and families, our show and voice will continue to be a driving force from here on out.
