Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Pappas.
Debra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For years, I worked as a photo shoot coordinator for a prominent advertising photographer. Part of my job was to hire models for advertising campaigns. With my experience hiring models and booking them for ad campaigns and other photo shoots, I developed relationships with casting director‘s and other agents as well as the parents of some of the models we booked. I begin teaching parents how to get their children started in the talent industry and referring those parents to agencies. Naturally, years later, with the connections and relationships that we made over the years, Bravo was born. it started out as a little snowball and it’s been on a roll ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is been somewhat of a smooth road, however, one of the biggest obstacles is the constant replenishing of talent especially children when they grow up. Some, find other interests and they will stop Modeling or acting. Babies grow up so we’re always in need of replenishing babies. Additionally, in the adult arena, especially over 40 yr age group, This baby boomer group especially has been in tremendous demand and our supply can’t keep up. This makes it much easier for talent to enter this industry at an age that normally people thought of themselves as too old. We are always looking for new faces in all ages and ethnic groups.
Please tell us about Bravo Talent Management Agency.
We represent models, actors, dancers, and theater talent of all ages and all ethnic groups. We started out with specializing in children, however as the industry has changed its demands, we now literally represent Infants to eight-year-olds. We have a reputation for great quality talent and a nice variety of different types. Example: fashion, commercial, comedic, theater, dancers and character types, including some with physical impairments. We pride ourselves on giving people the opportunity to live their dream and try something new. We’ve had people use this industry as a bucket list for themselves.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I loved playing outside. I’ve always loved working. Having a lemonade stand, selling Girl Scout cookies or my newspaper route at 8 years old. I was an AMA (American Motorcycle Association) member by 7 years old. My Dad would take me racing on the weekends.
Learning new things and working are my fondest memories as a young child.
