Today we’d like to introduce you to David Torres.
David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began doing tax returns in 1998 out of an office in Elmhurst, IL. I had other jobs as I was building my clientele. I was the head accountant at the Village of Forest Park, I was an accountant at Loeber Motors and I’ve also done accounting work for many other companies.
Once I established my clientele, I incorporated my own accounting firm in 2010. D TaxPeople has grown to service over 1700 tax return clients in 19 states and nearly 100 bookkeeping/payroll business clients. In 2018 I will be celebrating our 20th year of services provided to the Chicagoland area.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was never easy being a young hispanic male in the accounting field. I never had a mentor or role model in the financial world and had to learn all of the ins and outs of business along the way.

D Tax People specializes in personal tax returns. We also do corporate and non-profit tax returns.
The other services we provide are; Payroll services, bookkeeping services, sales tax filings, incorporate new businesses and tax resolution work.
I’m most proud of the integrity we’ve built as a business that has gained us the trust of so many clients.
What sets us most apart is how we try to assist each client as if they were a family member. Also that we are bilingual.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was EXTREMELY DIFFERENT from everyone else in my family and neighborhood. I was more than just a “go getter”. By the age of 12, I was assisting my parents with their financial decisions which helped me grow up fast. Baseball was my world and I was blessed to have been given a scholarship to play in college, which was my ticket out of the gang infested inner city.
