Today we’d like to introduce you to David Nowak.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started with my High School Drafting class, where I knew that drawing is something that I really enjoy. I got a part time job while I was still in High School working in an auto body shop where my dad worked. By working with cars and my love for art, I started to think what I can do to combine the two things that I love. This is where the interest grew more of me doing vinyl work on vehicles. My summer vacations were dedicated to work at the auto body shop to save money to buy my first vinyl cutting machine. Once I had the machine all my friends come to me to do their stickers for their cars. After that I wanted to learn more about the design, I went to International Academy of Design and Technology to study. After long hard 3 years with no summer breaks I finished my education where I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts, Visual Communication with a concentration in Graphic Design. I got my first job working for a sign company, where I was able to use my education and learned new skills and techniques. After working for a while I realized that I want to work for myself and build my own company. I already had my name and logo designed from the time I was in college, All I had to do is get my company registered and follow all the legal processes involved with it and that’s how Nowak Designs Inc. started. I have been in business now over 6 years and every year my company keeps on growing. Most of my customers are from referrals and existing customers that keep on referring me to all the people they know because they are happy and satisfied with the quality work that I do and services I provide. All the hard work and dedication got me where I am today. As a company I aspire to be bigger and better each day because my company is part of my life and the work that I do defines who I am.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a hard and challenging road to get where I am today. The hardest part was obtaining customers and for people to know who I am and what I do. I knew I had to step up with my design and vinyl wrap skills so people would recognize my work and my company. Another obstacle was saving money to purchase all other expensive equipment to grow my business. Running your own business always has a lot of obstacles and challenges from having busy months and multiple projects going on at once to winter where business usually slows down and you need to keep thinking of getting work to keep you going.

After college I got my first job where I met two great people that were my bosses and later became my mentors. They told me during the interview with them that one day they will see me running my own business.
