Today we’d like to introduce you to David Lipschultz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Would you believe me if I said a dog started my business? I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and always knew I wanted to own my own business, but it was largely my first pup, Scrap, who dictated the type of business I’d eventually start. Scrap was a relentless, lovable, fiercely loyal, obsessive-compulsive, endlessly hungry, and outrageously demanding cattle dog. In my search to determine the best way to cater to my new, awesome (ahem…super needy pup) Out-U-Go! Pet Care was born. I launched our first location in 1996 in Oak Park and we’ve since expanded to nine locations including several here in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, Denver and Boulder, CO and Madison, WI. We hope to open more locations later this year!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t know if any business owner can say honestly that it’s been a “smooth road.” By nature, most entrepreneurs are risk takers and those risks don’t always work out. That said, I’ve been fairly fortunate. I’ve worked hard, tried to always stay true to our brand, surrounded myself with trustworthy and honest people, and believe wholeheartedly in the service we provide. Our struggles are the same as many small businesses, but we try to be as relentless and resilient as the dog who paved the way learning new tricks along the way.
Please tell us about Out-U-Go! Pet Care.
We’re in the business of providing love! Each and every day, our team of wonderful Pet Sitters provide care to pups and kitties across the cities and towns we service. I’m most proud of our total dedication to awesome pet care. While we always say walking dogs is the easy part, building lasting, trustworthy relationships with our Pet Parents and delivering the best possible customer service experience is what sets our business apart. My job is to build all the systems needed behind the scenes to ensure our pet sitters and office humans can focus on the things that matter – ensuring Pet Parents and our furry clients always have a great experience with our service.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’m sure there are things I could have done differently but I’m thrilled about the business that Out-U-Go! has grown into. With consideration to the butterfly effect…I wouldn’t change a thing. 😉
