Meet David Carrion of Chi Pro in Jefferson Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Carrion.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2011, a friend and I had an idea to start a business together. I also saw the need for innovative ways to advertise and promote brands, companies, and organizations. I started out screen printing in a factory to learn all I could about the business. After saving some money for basic equipment, I purchased the essential items to start screen printing. The friend that came up with the idea quickly backed out and I was left to handle things on my own. I did not know much about the techniques for printing, as I have a background in business.

Never the less, I spend countless hours and sleepless nights learning to control the many variables that are involved in screen printing. I took on side jobs to supplement the costs for supplies and advertising. The business incurred a loss my first year. There were times when I thought I could not continue due to the pressures of responsibility and management. Being the resourceful individual I am, I was able to outsource the things I were not able to do and continued with the growth and management of the business. I got my first big break when I decided to open a shop.

A popular radio personality in Chicago came into my shop and requested a big order. This quickly boosted my confidence and enabled me to seek out and create new business relationships. Since then, my commitment and perseverance have carried me towards success. Chi Pro now has regular clients that we are proud to service. Service and quality is our main focus to our clients. Each order is custom since every need is unique. We work hard at our shop and we like the reactions of all our happy customers.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is not a smooth one. There were many obstacles and challenges to handle. One of the first challenges I faced was the lack of guidance and experience. The friend that backed out of the business in the beginning was meant to be my mentor. I had to learn and do it all on my own.

Another challenge I had to overcome was the limits to my finances. While paying all my bills, I had to support a business that was not yet making any profit. There were also challenges with figuring out what the best structure and plan was for the business.

Chi Pro – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Chi Pro is a small business that provides graphic designing and screen printing services. We specialize in custom screen printed apparel. We are confident with our great customer service as well as our passion to assist others with their custom apparel needs.

As a company, I am most proud of the growth. The business literally started from nothing and is growing at a steady pace. Despite all the obstacles and challenges, I continued with a vision for success. Persistence, commitment, and creativity are some traits that set me apart from others.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far is the recognition I receive when I tell others my story. I started with nothing and jumped into a field I knew little about. I love the daily challenges because it gives me the opportunity to better myself and the business.
