Meet Danielle Dettore of Danielle Dettore – Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist in West side

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Dettore.

Danielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I fell in love with beauty at a young age. At 10 years old, I loved braiding and painting faces and just really enjoyed transforming and creating a new vision. I had the opportunity to go to beauty school at 16, as we had a vocational school opportunity.

I graduated High School and a few months later received my Cosmetology license. I worked at a few salons and continued to gain experience and confidence. I wanted to also keep an option open, so I decided to obtain a business degree.

In the process of this goal, I had always been interested in makeup artistry. While finishing up my Bachelor’s degree. I went out to LA and took a week-long course in Media Makeup Artistry. I then went back to MI ( my hometown) and worked on a few independent films and worked on developing my portfolio.

I had been dreaming of moving to Chicago for a few years and one day I woke up and was like it’s NOW or NEVER! I jumped on that and set my first goal to get repped with Ford Artists in Chicago. The day came, I moved to Chicago and worked with Ford for about 2 years.

I fell into video production and the rest has been history! I love that my job is different every day. I love meeting and working with new people and love developing relationships. I love helping men and women in finding the right products for their skin and making them feel their best.

I am in the process of getting certified in Aromatherapy and I am excited to forge the 2 businesses together. I love to share this process to help my clients learn more about better ways to take care of themselves and finding what products works for each person individually.

I am a curious person and I love to keep learning and expanding my knowledge and my creative process to help my clients look and feel their best!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some obstacles that I have faced was the fact that it was challenging, in the beginning, to balance my trust in knowing that I will get work, as a Freelance Artist So I had to have a second job waitressing to make ends meet at the beginning of my career.

I stuck with it for a few years, then I had to take the training wheels off and let go and TRUST. I did and it has been the best decision! I also noticed I tend to get stuck on getting that perfect image or finding perfectionism in everything I do.

I regularly check in and tell myself I am learning and it’s a process. I am learning to love the process and enjoy each step. This is a good stepping stone, as it can build from a place of uncertainty and create even more than you ever imagined.

It’s not about the finished product, but being present to the process and being open to where it may take you. Try not to get too ahead of yourself and have everything planned out to a T. It’s ok if something isn’t perfect and that’s the beauty of it.

I love to create and share with the world a piece of me and that’s good enough! Be brave and let go and it will always work out. Be gentle and laugh at yourself. This has helped me tremendously.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Danielle Dettore – Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I work independently and I am my own boss. I work on Video, Print, Events, Live Events, Weddings and Special Occasions. I think what sets me apart is my approachable and down-to-earth personality on set and I am good at making the talent comfortable when they are in my chair and I have a good eye for detail! I am good at making people look like the “best version” of them.

I love to do clean beauty and love to show the natural glow on a face and to use a light touch! I do like to be silly and laugh and make jokes (at appropriate times) and I think it’s fun to make people laugh and feel relaxed. Humor is definitely one of my strengths.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to keep learning more about natural and toxic free beauty products to share and to use on my clients and to keep expanding on that.

I love to share more ways women/ men can look and feel their best and also being considerate of healthier products and being conscious of what they are using or not using on their skin and help them find more balance in their beauty/ self-care routine!
