Meet Dalia Galinskiene of Salon & Spa Dalia in Hinsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalia Galinskiene.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Lithuania and started dancing when I was six years old. As we grew into competitive dancers as teenagers, we would travel to places like Moscow and Germany to perform our national Lithuanian dances and I always enjoyed playing with my girlfriends’ hair and makeup for the performances. I was really good at special braids and plaits, trimming their bangs, and trying different make-up looks while exploring colors and products. Upon completing University with a degree in Choreography, I began studying skincare, massage and makeup because I realized it was my true passion and how I loved spending my time.

I moved to Chicago with my husband and young boys in 2004. I worked in high end salons as an esthetician in order to become more familiar with American spa experiences, all the while dreaming about opening my own spa one day!

Finally that day arrived in 2012, when Salon and Spa Dalia was opened in Hinsdale. I wanted to create an incredibly intimate and comfortable ambiance for my clients with a hands on, personal approach to their care. Through my work over the years, I really believe that you can look and feel beautiful without invasive and painful procedures and wanted to share that with my clients.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Primarily, opening the business was fairly straightforward, with very few hiccups when you consider we were still in the financial recovery from 2008. It took a while to get the permits for construction, but luckily everything fell into place at exactly the right moment and we opened within a year from start to finish.

When I opened the Spa, we had only three clients and through word of mouth and a little advertising, the business grew steadily. We were very fortunate that early on, our clients supported us and recognized the lovely experience of the Spa, and they helped us build it into what it is today.

Please tell us about Salon & Spa Dalia.
Salon and Spa Dalia is a spa for women and men with a broad range of services which includes our signature customized facials, makeup application, skincare, haircuts and color, blow-dries, massage, waxing, organic spray tans, and spa manicures/pedicures.

My philosophy is that one can age beautifully and naturally with special and frequent skincare treatments which then becomes the ultimate anti-aging tool. Many dermatologists and plastic surgeons are not interested in alternative therapies like micro current facials, which is something I specialize in. They prefer lasers, injectable or surgery.

I specialize in Guinot, Parisian facial treatments and chose Guinot products for my Spa because I was very familiar with the line before moving to the US and wanted the highest quality products. The skincare treatments are extremely effective and the home care products are of the highest quality, and made with natural ingredients.

I love performing the Hydradermie Lift treatment because it delivers fabulous, natural results, and is a great alternative to aesthetic medicine. These Microcurrent and Galvanic-current facials are excellent for skin rejuvenation, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, puffiness and evens out your skin tone. Our clients can’t get enough of these treatments and often set up recurring appointments for monthly maintenance.

I am most proud of creating a warm and comfortable environment in the Spa. I have been so fortunate to have amazing and fun clients who bring their stories to the Salon every day and who make my work so incredibly enjoyable.

What were you like growing up? Personality wise, interest wise, etc.
Growing up in Lithuania and especially as a dancer, I was very focused at a young age on caring for myself and my fellow dance troupe. We were very independent and disciplined for our dance training, so our free time was very dear to us. I loved and appreciated my friendships, playing silly games like “Robin Hood” in the forest, stealing apples from the trees and laughing and spending time with my friends.
