Meet Dahlia Fahmy of Sports and Ortho Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dahlia Fahmy.

Dahlia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Sports and Ortho in 2003 with a dream to provide the best possible care for patients in the Chicago region. I saw how therapy was getting away from true quality and becoming more of a commodity. I didn’t become a therapist to work for a big box clinic I became a therapist to help people feel better, move better and live better.

Now 14 years later Sports and Ortho has five locations across Chicago spanning from the Northwest side to the Southside. We offer on unparalleled service to our patients with a mixture of manual therapy and a Kinetic chain functional approach. No other clinic does what we do and we strive to do it well. We are the “Cheers” of physical therapy where everybody knows your name.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the PT climate in Chicago, the road has not been easy. Trying to compete against huge corporate and physician-owned practices is a very difficult thing. We have somehow survived due to word-of-mouth and results. Our patients have been very loyal to us over the years and we have appreciated every moment.

Please tell us about Sports and Ortho Physical Therapy.
Sports and ortho is a physical therapy clinic that specializes in outpatient orthopedics and is the only clinic in Chicago that has a specialty in return to work for Chicago’s finest Firefighters/paramedics and Police officers.

Our special blend of training makes us unique in the Chicagoland area. We are a blend of manual therapy and Applied Functional Science. What that means is that our therapists understand the human body and how to treat it better than the majority of therapists. We offer one on one hands on time and an aggressive functional approach that makes therapy fun, understandable, and promotes full return to the activities that the patient desires. We treat the mind, the body, and the spirit the way that all therapists should. The thing that I am most proud of is our return rate of patients. Our patients have been so loyal over the last 14 years not only coming back when they need therapy but referring their friends their family and their coworkers. That loyalty makes me believe that we are doing something very special.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mentor Gary Gray and Dave Tiberio deserve much of the credit for teaching me about real movement the way it was meant to be taught and not like it is taught in school. What I learned during my Fellowship has been priceless for me, my patients, and my staff members.

Sports and Ortho patients also deserve ALOT of credit. Without them telling other people about us we wouldn’t be here. S&O relies heavily on word-of-mouth. Without our patients, we would not survive.
