Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Trower.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m from a small town in Northern Wisconsin and came from a wonderful hard working family that taught me all about strong work ethic. I am also a free spirit that likes to dance to the beat of my own drum. Growing up I always loved doing my friends and family’s hair, so it was fitting to go to cosmetology school after high school. After graduating I knew I wanted to explore and see what else was out there. I had a drive that was unstoppable. So I packed up my car and moved to Minneapolis where I started my career. After a short period of time, I realized I loved doing hair but wanted to be more than a hairstylist, I wanted to be an entrepreneur. That next day I enrolled in business school where I earned a degree in business management. After college I then decided it was time to make a move- Chicago it was. I always loved the excitement of a new city, new beginnings and a new challenge. Once I got to Chicago I then trained with some of the best leaders in the industry, always knowing that one day I wanted to own my own business. In February 2015 I decided to follow my dream and founded Sogna di Vita (life’s dream). I am so proud of my salon as it brings me much joy and reward. It was challenging and scary getting started but well worth the risk. I have now been open two successful years and have implemented an extensive training program. I want to give back to new graduates starting out and empower them to their great potential. We’re constantly growing with new business every day and look forward to what the future holds. My journey has not been easy but I can say that hard work, passion and perseverance pays off. You can achieve anything you believe is possible. I love my life as a business owner and all the people that surround me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were definitely struggles along the way. I dealt with permit issues with the city of Chicago which ended up being a setback. I also opened in the middle of winter and my pipes froze. So dealing with plumbing and electrical issues and other unforeseen expenses were not fun. You will definitely experience ups and downs when running a business but it is part of the process. All we can do is ride the waves and learn along the way.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sogna di Vita Salon – what should we know?
We are a full service hair salon. We specialize in balayage, creative color, haircuts, extensions and bridal hair. What I am most proud of is starting the business from the ground up considering all the struggles along the way. I am also very proud to watch my employees grow and being able to give opportunity and empowerment to others. I also love being a part of the growth in my community and building great relationships along the way. My current endeavor is extensive training to become one of L’Oreal Professionnel’s elite educators.
