Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Torres-Moore.
Cristina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After practicing medicine for several years and participating in research for pharmaceuticals development, I realized that advanced medicine was indeed important but at times too late, so I wanted to do something to help people to stay healthy with natural methods. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a full system of medicine that allows treating the person as a whole with noninvasive methods, so I pursued a master’s degree in TCM while living in Chicago. This type of approach allows me to spend time listening to patients and understanding their concerns. I have been able to influence individuals and full families to take control of their health through lifestyle changes, dietary recommendations, acupuncture, and Chinese herbs.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new practice is always challenging, so starting a practice with a different approach is even more difficult. I have learned to take things slow and stay focused on my vision. This is my fourth year in business and I am happy to say that business is rising.
Integral Alternative Medicine – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
After spending about an hour listening the patient’s concerns and using my experience and understanding of medicine from both worlds, the Western biomedical approach and the Traditional Chinese Medicine approach, I come up with an individualized plan to address the root of the problem rather than focus only on the symptoms.
We partner with the patient to achieve long-term results and connect them to other health professionals when required.
Some of my patients have said they feel that they finally have reached a place where they can be heard and supported to heal.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
From a professional perspective, being able to reach year four of my new journey in alternative medicine.
From my patient’s perspective, achieving results where Western medicine could not do more to fix the problem and receiving thoughtful comments regarding the special care they receive at Integral Alternative Medicine LLC.
