Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudio and Raluca Varo.
Claudio and Raluca, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I, Claudio Varo, started my career in real estate during my last semester in college. I quickly fell in love with the industry. A couple years later the market crashed and I had to hold a full time job but never let go of the license. I always knew that real estate had to make a comeback. During this time my wife, Raluca Varo, decided to get her leasing agent’s license so that she can help me with rental deals when I was not available.
When the market finally started to improve, I left my full time job and less than a year later we opened Varo Real Estate. We have designed the business around what we felt would help our clients feel connected with their agent. It also helps our agents be mobile and work in ways that are most beneficial to them and their clients.
We take great pride for always listening to our clients’ needs and trying to meet as many requirements as possible. We always stick to their budgets and try to get them as many items on their wish list as possible. We also treat each client equally whether it will be a sale or rental transaction. All of our clients are equally important to our business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Raluca and I both started Varo Real Estate from zero. We did not have a lot of money to start but knew what we wanted. Our families were also not in the position to be able to help us financially. We both took a huge risk and jumped with both feet in when we opened Varo Real Estate. Neither of us had a steady income since real estate is 100% commission based. We needed to do some kind of brand awareness, but did not have too much money to do so. We started with what we could. I had great Yelp reviews from past clients and did what we could with social media. Now we are presently pleased when people say they have heard of us one way or another. Now year after year our business has been growing. We hired our first agent this year and hope to grow with another few agents shortly.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Varo Real Estate story. Tell us more about the business.
Varo Real Estate is a residential real estate brokerage in the North Park area of Chicago. However we cover a large territory. We help our clients with all their real estate needs in Chicago, north shore suburbs and western suburbs as well. Our clients have described us in many ways in their reviews of our services, but by far our favorite is trustworthy and honest. We do NOT tell our clients what they want to hear to make them happy, but we tell them the truth about their transactions so that they can stay well informed. We always listen to their wants and needs but we let them know when they are doable or when they are unreasonable.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Raluca and I do not believe that luck had anything to do with our business. We work hard, very hard to keep our clients happy and hopefully return in the future or refer a friend or family member.
