So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
There was a need in the Elgin area, and the building that Bumblebee is now operating in had been vacant for the past 6 years. We wanted to have a place that families could come, relax and enjoy time with their children. Living in Chicago weather has always been unpredictable, so the Bumblebee is the perfect place for kids to come and get out their energy no matter what the weather is.
The amount of space allowed us to accommodate a wider variety of ages. There are not very many places that toddlers can go without being run down by larger children. At Bumblebee we have two separate rooms one for 4 and under and the other room is for 5 to 11. The cafe was an added bonus since coffee has become a necessity for so many of us. We knew that our moms and dads would love the convenience that the cafe would bring.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a pretty smooth road, the community has been so supportive which has made this business successful even in the beginning stages.
Bumblebee Play Cafe – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I answered most of this in the questions before. We are known for our ability to offer a safe, clean and friendly environment for kids to play for hours. We are proud of our ability to listen to our customers and make changes to better us as a company. We have taken a vacant building and turned it into an indoor playground that children can play for hours without getting bored.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We feel that success is measured by how our customers feel about us. If they are happy, they will keep coming back.
Pricing:
- Monday- Friday $8.00 per child (additional siblings are $6.00)
- Saturday, Sunday and Holidays $12.00 per child (additional siblings are $10.00)
- Monday-Thursday after 3 pm is Happy Hour $5.00 per child (No happy hour on Holidays)
