Meet Chris, Jake, Emily Mannos of 2Twenty2 Tavern

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris, Jake, Emily.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris, Jake, Emily. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We all started working in the restaurant industry as young kids for our parents who have owned/operated the Exchequer Restaurant and Pub for over 36 years.

Having grown up in the industry, all 3 of us had a vision of opening up our own late night spot in the loop to revitalize the area and bring a different style and culture to the downtown area. Once all 3 of us had finished college & received our degrees, the right opportunity opened, which we took advantage of.

A spot located right next door to the Exchequer became available, and we decided that it was the perfect opportunity. We started demolishing what once was an old shoe store, and started creating our vision of 2Twenty2 Tavern. As we once joked about building our own 70-foot bar, it all started to become a reality.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, we have had a pretty smooth ride. Working with your family is amazing because you can be open and sometimes (brutally) honest, which helps get things done efficiently. Luckily our parents were able to give us advice from their 36 years in the industry, which prepared us for the worst.

2Twenty2 Tavern is a late night whiskey/craft beer bar, serving all occasions. We have crafted cocktails, live music on the weekends, and drink deals weekly. People love coming in and enjoying our 2Twenty2 Lager, which we serve for $2.22.

We are also known for our whiskey and tequila on draft, which we use to make our specialty cocktails, such as our Old Fashioned and Jalapeno Margarita. People enjoy our whiskey inspired tavern through the décor and the fact we offer over 40 options of whiskey & scotch.

Since we stay open until 2 am Mon-Fri & Sunday, and 3 am on Saturdays, we are known as a great late night spot for after work nightcaps. We attract a lot of students, they love enjoying a drink after class and it is a great place to hold school group get-togethers. Along with students, we attract tourists, business professionals, and also people looking for live music.

We pride ourselves on running an honest, family owned and operated business. We treat our employees and our customers like family. We are proud to have created this new scene in the loop.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We think Chicago has a great bar/restaurant industry because it is so diverse. If you’re willing to put in the work and sacrifice 70-80 hours per week of your time, any dream can become a reality. Our Grandfather (who operated grocery stores and restaurants himself) has always said, “You can sleep when you’re dead.”
