Meet Cathy Hallow of Hallow Homes Real Estate in Lansing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Hallow.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been a realtor since 1990. I wanted to become a realtor after working as a receptionist at a real estate company for two years. I liked the diversity of the job–every day was different, it wasn’t 9 to 5, and your income was up to you because you determined how much you wanted to work. So I got my real estate license and became a realtor for ReMax, where I worked until 2009, when I was recruited by Realty Executives Target to be their managing broker.

The owner decided to drop the franchise a few years later, so instead of finding another real estate company to work for, I decided to do something I’ve always wanted to do–launch my own business. I began Hallow Homes in 2014, and the rest is history!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had always belonged to a real estate franchise, so the biggest challenge was figuring out how to establish my own identity and convince those that I could help them just as much–if not, more–then realtors at a major franchise.

I established my business in the town I’ve lived in since I was 11, so I was able to establish myself by pointing to my roots in the community. I’m very familiar with Lansing, IL, and the surrounding area (South Suburbs, Northwest Indiana), so I’ve been able to use that knowledge to assure clients they’re in good hands.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hallow Homes Real Estate – what should we know?
We are Hallow Homes Real Estate. I am the managing broker owner and founder. We assist those in buying and selling homes in the south suburbs and northwest Indiana.

What sets us apart from other real estate companies is our familiarity with the area (myself, along with the three independent contract brokers who also work at Hallow Homes, have lived in Lansing or the surrounding area for much of our lives). I believe I’ve succeeded in my career because of my honesty. I’ve been told that I can be kind of blunt, but I want to do everything I can to assist my clients in the real estate process and be absolutely straight with them. I’m not here just to get a sale; I’m here to help my clients find a home, or sell a home they’ve worked so hard on.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My honesty! I’m willing to go that extra mile to be transparent with my clients and keep them informed.
