Today we’d like to introduce you to Cat Levine.
She just placed first in overall women’s and in Illinois at the 2017 USA Yoga Midwest Super Regional Yoga Asana Championships and will be representing the state at the National Yoga Asana Championships in a few months.
Cat, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started yoga 12 years ago on a whim after walking by a hot yoga studio on a Canadian winter day. There was a large window in that studio that faced street side and you could see all these sweaty bodies moving. I was intimidated at first. I certainly thought it looked a little nutty, but then I took my first class and have had a daily yoga practice since.
This yoga changed my life more than once and continues to do so. I learned to accept myself, love myself and I brought myself out of physical pain along the way. This yoga is for everybody. I so strongly believe that every person can benefit from yoga in some way. It’s not just stretching. It is not just for super fit people.
My drive to open my yoga school comes from my dream to share the healing properties of yoga with as many people as possible.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been easy sailing. Opening and running a small business is tough and continues to challenge me. But that is why I do yoga!
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Be Yoga Andersonville story. Tell us more about the business.
At Be Yoga Andersonville, we offer yoga classes for all bodies. I am so proud of the diversity we see in our classes. We specialize in hot yoga in the lineage of Bishnu Ghosh. We believe in yoga as a therapeutic practice that can heal.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We have seen over time that people are looking for more diversity in terms of classes offered.
