Today we’d like to introduce you to Cary Weinstein.
Cary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My father Larry started our company in 1986 at the age of 70. I came to work for him in 1987 after working in the music industry in Nashville for 7 years and then the film industry in Los Angeles for 2 years. Several years later, he made me his partner. My father passed away in 1999. About a year later my cousin Kevin came to work for me and has helped me grow our business from a furniture reupholstery and wood refinishing company to a full service custom furniture manufacturing business. Kevin is now a partner in our business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been very fortunate in life, but my business has had its share of difficulties. We as a company are lucky and we do have some great people working for us, but in the past and even more now it is hard to find quality staff with the skills needed to do what we do. Although we have been steadily busy over the years we do have times where business slows. What bothers me most about the slow times is that our staff cannot afford to go without working. I can get by if needed without getting paid, my staff not as easily. I would never want to be forced to have to lay people off or cut their hours, it would just eat me up inside.
Please tell us about Covers Unlimited.
We are a full service custom furniture manufacturing, reupholstering and wood refinishing company. We do work for all kinds of customers including corporate, designer, hospitality, dealership, healthcare and residential markets. We take great pride in our service and quality of work for a fair price. I would have to say that our customer service sets us apart from the rest of our competition. Our motto is that we make our customers jobs easier. I am most proud of the staff we have and the quality work and service we provide. We are not curing cancer or solving the world’s problems but we can make people happy by providing beautiful new furniture and reupholstering family heirlooms. I am also happy that we as a company can help provide jobs for good people in a pleasant work environment.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Spending time with my parents and brother.
