Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Crocket and Jodi Hinzmann.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Caitlin and Jodi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since I was a little girl, there was never any question as to what profession I would pursue later in life. My passion for design began very early. At 8 years old, I created a binder with elements for my dream home including bathroom inspiration and a few of my own exterior drawings. This proclivity continued throughout the years. I remember creating detailed renderings for my high school prom. I began my formal education in interior design at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. I then transferred to Harrington College of Design in Chicago where I received my BFA in Interior Design. After college, I dabbled in the retail industry and also worked for a general contracting firm. I then found my true passion in high end residential design. – Caitlin
Interior Design is the creative outlet I have incorporated throughout my life. After being rejected from the drafting class at my high school because it was “only offered to boys” I was more determined to follow a career in architecture and design. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Interior Design and worked in the commercial and hospitality field until I was given an opportunity to represent lighting to the architectural and design community as a marketing representative for Lutron around the United States and abroad. – Jodi
The creation of SC Design began at Chill, one of our favorite Merchandise Mart events. We knew our personalities meshed and we wanted to share our passion for design with Chicago.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest struggle was landing our first client. Our business organically grew from there as referrals started trickling in.
SC Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
SC Design is a full service residential and commercial interior design firm. We don’t have a signature style per se, but pride ourselves in our ability to interpret our clients’ needs and create a unique space for their individual lifestyles. Because we don’t limit ourselves to one type of style, we have the breadth of experience in many genres of design. This keeps every project fresh and exciting.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We define success by our ability to exceed our clients’ expectations. Our clients are the most important part of our business. If they aren’t happen, we aren’t either. It’s a symbiotic relationship.
