Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Hootman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bruce. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Started when taking SCUBA classes in college in 1974. Loved diving so much that after college became an instructor in 1975 and started the store in 1976. Part time at first but then grew very quickly to become full time in a few years to one of the largest most compete dive stores in the Chicago area and in the top 10% of stores in the country.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggles have been not having a business degree and the numerous business mistakes over the years. All have been valuable learning experiences and helped the business grow.

We do just about everything with SCUBA diving. Instruction, Equipment Sales, Repairs, Rentals and Tours around the world to show people the beautiful underwater world.
