Meet Bruce Bachelder of Dangerous Brains in Elgin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Bachelder.

Bruce, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always felt like an artist whether I was utilizing my artistic talents or not. Growing up in the suburbs in the 1970s outside of Chicago was sometimes challenging for me. A lot of the schools usually were very sports friendly but generic when it came to art. However, going to the Art Institute of Chicago was like a breath of fresh air!

I loved all of the variety that was on display there. It was definitely inspiring. My other artistic influences were comic books and the artists that drew them.

Anytime I got a chance to draw or incorporate something artistic into a school project I would. I college I grew artistically a lot my junior year. That is where I met my fellow collaborator Mike Rende.

We were roommates and taking a lot of the same classes. We came upon this idea to produce 2 giant 45 lb. canvas books for some of our classes.

The books turned out to be such a success, we decided to continue our collaboration beyond college. Mike and I have been busy these past 7 years! We have been in group shows and solo obes.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
