Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Freiman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am an attorney who does criminal defense and family law. My degree at UIC was in criminal justice and then I went to law school. While in law school, I clerked at the Cook County Public Defender’s office in Skokie. I also clerked at another firm in law school but I liked criminal law so I went back to clerking at the Public Defender’s office my last year of law school. I opened my own firm in 2009 when I finished law school mostly doing criminal law. I have been working on my own since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never a smooth road when you open your own business. A lot of my struggles were getting clients and helping them in their unique situations and issues. Some clients have issues with drugs and some just need a person on their side to help them and guide them through this hard time in their life. I had to learn to help them and not take personally when a person was sent to jail or when they violated their probation.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Freiman Law – what should we know?
Most of my business is criminal law. I am most proud of the personal relationship I have with my clients and the extra help and support I offer my clients. I give out my cell phone number so that if there is an emergency I can be reached.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think my willingness to go the extra mile to sit down, listen and be honest with my client is important to my success. Some people want to just sell the client a service but I know that, it is important to understand what happened and be able to give my client’s my honest advice and service is important.
