Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Buck.
Billy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Southern California and moved to the north suburbs of Chicago when I was 5, and moved into the city when I was 18. My work started at age 14 when I got my first camera, shooting mainly landscapes and close up photographs of textures of my surroundings on family vacations.
As my style has progressed through the years, I have found my work has become a refinement of early interests; primary and secondary color pallets, simple and commonplace objects, dramatic shadows and ironic situations. In short, my photography is about the non-linear energy of anxiety.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Making art is a constant struggle. Triumphs and failures are both fuel for me to keep making new work and expanding what is possible. I definitely think it’s important to trust your intuition and simultaneously have a healthy suspicion.
