Meet Ben Simkins of Blush Events in West Lakeview

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Simkins.

Ben, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My favorite thing in the world is to get ready to go somewhere. I could spend 4 hours getting ready at home with friends, and then only be at the event for 15 minutes. We started Blush Events in 2014, with the concept of making getting ready for your event an event in and of itself.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If any start-up has had a smooth road, please direct them my way so they can teach me EVERYTHING! Starting Blush Events was the first time I had ever started a business, so there is absolutely a learning curve there. When you don’t have a lot of disposable start-up money, you really have to be creative. My partner, Alison Davis, and I became our own financial planners, graphic designers, marketing strategists. At the end of the day, having had our hands on each part of this company has taught me so much and given me such a sense of capability and ownership. The road may not have been smooth, but it has taught (and continues to teach) me so much!

Blush Events is in an event-based hair and makeup company. We specialize in creating timeless, classic bridal looks that you will love for years to come. In Chicago’s beauty industry, there are so many talented and passionate hair stylists and makeup artists, and I am proud to call many of them my friends. What sets Blush Events apart is that we take it to the next level of professionalism. We’ve taken “it’s all in the details” and run with it by offering unique services like our Groom’s and Groomsmen Neck and Hairline Cleanups (just $25), we offer complimentary hair and makeup trials to all of our contracted brides, and we create hair and makeup schedules for you and your bridal party so that you have one less thing to worry about. I am most proud of the way that we make our clients FEEL on their special day!

What were you like growing up?
Head-strong. Curious. Artistic. Not all that different than I am now!
