Meet Becky Reel of For Papa’s Sake Home Care for Families in Northwest Suburbs of Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Reel.

Becky, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For Papa’s Sake started over 8 years ago after my grandfather (whom I dotingly called Papa) suffered a tragic end of life in a nursing home. My mother and stepfather wanted to create something special to keep my grandfather’s legacy alive but also give families options outside of a nursing home. For Papa’s Sake was my family’s way of turning some very sour lemons into lemonade.

My parents did all the heavy lifting when it came to getting the business started. I’m just lucky enough to be part of their mission and help be a support system to our clients and their families.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not in the least bit. Home care is a very challenging industry – both from a client satisfaction perspective and staffing side. Being a licensed agency by the state of IL, there were many hurdles to overcome initially to comply with state mandates.

The first few years were the most challenging as we worked to build up a solid reputation. Now, with over 8 years under our belt, we are challenged with continuously surpassing our clients’ expectations. We don’t want our clients to walk away thinking our service was OK. Rather, we want to leave a positive lasting impression on our clients and their families.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Being a non-medical home care agency, For Papa’s Sake focuses on the safety and well-being of our senior clients. We focus on companionship, meal prep, and cooking, driving to doctor appointments and errands, bathing and grooming assistance, and medication reminders to name a few of our services. Many of our caregivers have specialized training in Alzheimer’s and dementia care along with being licensed CNAs for the higher level needs. We also provide hospice care where we will work alongside hospice to ensure clients are comfortable and their needs are being met.

We are known in the Northwest Suburbs for our hands-on approach. Our goal is never to be the largest agency because we want to be involved with our clients and their family members. Our owners, along with our Client Care Directors, make frequent visits to our clients’ homes to check in on caregivers and clients.

We are most proud of our reputation and the fact that we have grown mostly from word of mouth and referrals from past clients.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is an incredibly competitive market for home care. I think no matter where you start out, you need to make sure your heart is in it before getting started. If you’re in it for the money, this probably isn’t the right industry for you.

For us, since we went through this on a personal level, we are able to connect with families on the same level. We just want to be able to provide a comforting and empathetic experience for clients and their families, which I think is how we have been able to grow the way we have.
