Today we’d like to introduce you to Arella Swan.
Arella, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved to write, whether it was stories, poems or just journaling it’s always been a love of mine. I didn’t really take it seriously until I realized I was good at in high school. From there, my love for writing grew and college was where it all changed. I had no formal journalism training when I went to college and I remember a certain professor telling me she didn’t understand why I was writing about the stuff I was writing about. So, after college, I had this journalism degree with no job, so I decided to put my skills in writing together with also love for fashion. I had started a blog but due to school I never stayed consistent. I dedicated time to it and created content around fashion. I always set trends as a kid, with colored hair, screen tees and one of the kind looks. This also fueled my creative passion and love for the arts and expression. Once I became consistent with the blog, I started to see results and people would ask for my advice on fashion-related inquiries. So, I put that into my blog and now into events to inform, educate on fashion hacks, trends and how to streamline businesses from a marketing perspective. It took me time, patience and drive to keep myself motivated to keep going because a creative many don’t “get” it but I’ve been blessed to have been able to help others in the fashion, blogging and social media realm.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I struggled with comparing myself to other creatives who made it, second-guessing my purpose and not being confident in what I knew I was good at and that this is what I was destined to do. Getting out of my own way has been my major struggle.
Please tell us about Sweetheartswan.
I am a fashion blogger, writer, stylist and social media marketer/manager. I am what you call a micro influencer. I create content for my blog, other brands. I style people for any and all occasions and I help businesses understand, grow, and target clients on social media. I am most proud of hearing people tell me that I’ve inspired them or that they’ve learned a lot from me.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories are going all over the city with my two aunts going shopping, going to new areas and trying new cultures food and being immersed in all that the city has to offer.
