Today we’d like to introduce you to Anwar Jebran.
Honeydoe was founded early 2016. We were looking for a high-quality Syrian food in Chicago, we could not find. We thought about starting a catering company that serves Chicago and its suburbs. The founders are Siham who is the executive chef, she has developed the recipes over the past 40 years of cooking experience in Syria. Her daughter Rana, the head of operations, she takes care of all the events, schedules and she also developed great skills cooking over the years. Anwar, CEO, he takes care of all the financials, management and marketing for the company.
When we started, we started testing the market and all of our family and close friends loved the idea, taste and pricing point of our products and items. Honeydoe has grown significantly the past year, currently, we do all sort of catering services for corporate events, weddings, bridal and baby showers and dinners. We are also going to start having pop-up stores partnering up with Fooda. We have developed multiple partnerships to be able to serve a wider audience, we have partnered with Calihan Catering to provide the A-Z Catering services for all sort of events, especially the upcoming Ramadan holiday. Now, we are working with 2 Syrian refugees at our kitchen, they help us cooking and preparing food.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We have never worked in the food business before. So, we had to learn it from scratch. Obtaining the necessary licenses and paperwork, sourcing the right produce and products with competitive prices, looking for an appropriate working space, marketing our business, these were part of the difficulties that we face earlier in the process of starting the business.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Honeydoe story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a Catering company, specialized in the Mediterranean cuisine, especially the Syrian cuisine. We serve a wide variety of items in addition to Authentic Syrian dishes. We cater for small or larger scale events, such as dinners, corporate events, weddings, bridal and baby showers, birthday parties. We provide A-Z catering services that fit our clients budget and requirements.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think we are lucky being healthy to be able to work hard on our business. I think you consider yourself lucky when you have your family’s support and being safe in this country away from the bloody conflict in Syria. But luck is not enough to have a successful business. You need to work very hard to build a successful business.
