Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Markiewicz.
Anna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My father had always done photography as a hobby so I’ve always had the camera in my face, once I got older he started teaching me the basics. From there I was hooked, I knew that this was going to be something that I wanted to do. I started off doing nature shots and things that were in my backyard and taking photos during my vacations. I would post on Instagram just for my friends and family to see what I was up to, but I started getting more and more followers and likes from people all over the world. People really enjoyed my work and they wanted to see more. I then got hired to take pictures for weddings, birthdays, and family portraits. Since then I’ve gotten more and more recognition from places such as this site and it’s a pleasure!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It is a challenge to put yourself out there, I have been on Instagram since the beginning of the app. So, I have grown the same way that the app has, but you have to remember that you should never give up. It may seem that you are not getting anywhere with your work and you might feel like giving up. But you have to keep your head up and keep moving. One of the most important tips that I could give anyone is to just keep posting, the more that you put yourself out there the more likely that people will see your work. When you feel inspired you should go out and just shoot. Challenge yourself to post at least once or twice a week, so then you are able to look back and see what you can improve on.
Anna Markiewicz Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What I specialize in is doing portrait photography and landscape. Since I started doing landscape I have more experience with those types of photos, but my skills in portraits have vastly been improving. My goal is to make everyone feel amazing and comfortable during the shoot, because those are the pictures that come out perfect. Anyone can be a model and if you take their photos right, others will believe it too. I’m proud of the skills that I have developed for being self-taught photographer, I have improved drastically from my start into photography. What sets me apart from others is I believe that I have that creative drive and that determination to improve my shots. I love constructive criticism because others input will help me know exactly what I can change or I should continue doing with my photos. And every location can be a place to shoot, you just have to believe and try things you’ve never done before.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as something that you can be proud of, regardless of what others are doing and what they have done as long as you are satisfied with the product that you have done that’s all that matters. What I look out for is the drive, if you are not committed in the work that you are doing then it shows in your photos. And I really appreciate people who post often and are always putting out content, because that’s when you improve the most. And I am a big sucker for photos of beautiful locations, such as mountains and islands.
