Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Mitchell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been collecting records for nearly 20 years and worked a day job for over 15 years… felt like a change was needed. I mentioned to my neighbor across the street that I was thinking of opening a record store and we started slowly building 3 or 4 years prior to this coming to fruition. We partnered up and hired a few architect friends to help us build out the space, and after several months of building out, we opened our doors in October 2015.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Fortunately the road has been manageable… we had a few issues with the build out but everything eventually worked out.
Please tell us about 606 Records.
We’re a record store filled with 10,000+ records (LP’s, 12″s and 7″s). We specialize in selling/promoting Chicago based and smaller lesser known labels from around the world, mainly in the electronic/dance genre. Our collection also consists of World music, Rock, Hip Hop, Reggae and Soul/Funk. We’re probably best known for catering to the DJ as we have 2 turntables built into our checkout area and tend to host DJ’s often for instore parties, record releases, etc. Definitely feel most proud of the mutual love we’ve received from the community and our customers.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
At this point in time, feeling good with how everything started and where we’re at today.
