Today we’d like to introduce you to Andreas Kalasountas.
One blessed morning on the beautifully sunlit island of Andros, a group of American friends relished in what Greece is known for best, its warm hospitality and of course it’s deliciously healthy cuisine. Breakfast was made up of organic whole grains, pasture-raised eggs, feta from the same goats that roam the winding roads of Andros, honey from a local beekeeper, olive oils, jams, and fruits all grown and produced locally on the Island.
As Andreas (originally from Andros, now residing in Chicago, IL) enjoyed the unique tastes of the Island with his friends he got to thinking… After speaking with a few local family producers as well as John the local beekeeper it was decided that this vibrant and healthful produce should be shared abroad to international customers in the United States. It was that sunny morning in Andros that the adventures of Kalas Imports began.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is never smooth in a so much international and diverse city like Chicago where all citizens of this world trying to sell their products. Some of the struggles along were to convince that we have a dream to bring quality tasty and healthy certified products from the most remote villages or islands of Greece and our products worth to have a chance to be among others to themselves.

Kalas Imports started almost 4 years ago to bring natural and organic products from Greece such as honey, olive oil, jams, spices and herbs, olives etc. Our goal was to make known the Mediterranean and specifically the Greek diet to the American customers for a healthy lifestyle taking advantage of the benefits we have following the right choices of a balanced GR diet. We are proud of this dream and for the fact that every day more and more stores and customers use our products and adopt a healthier lifestyle enjoying and discovering the delicious tastes of our products. We are different because we will go to the most remoted village or island researching for the most authentic producers with a variety of products, contacting them, motivate, convince and help to become certified and to export their products to American and International customers.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Maybe more marketing movements to inform customers for the nutritional value of our products.
