Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Samuels and James Harris.
Chicago Artist Studios was founded on February 13th, 2016 by Pro Makeup Artist Andrea Samuels and Fashion Photographer James Harris. After working together for 3 years, the makeup and photography duo decided to not only open up a studio for themselves, but to expand it out to artists that need a space for their projects.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest obstacle for us was the very beginning stages; we found the space in November 2015, but it took us about 3 months to renovate, build and re-create the space to fit our clientele. We wanted the place to look upscale but still have a comfortable, home vibe. We still have a few more things to renovate in our space but at the moment we are happy with the aesthetic.

Chicago Artist Studios is a rental space created for photographers, artists and private events in the city of Chicago. The studio was founded on February 13th, 2016 by Pro Makeup Artist Andrea Samuels and Fashion Photographer James Harris. Our mission is to help photographers, publications and artists within the fashion industry to have access to a creative space for their clients and projects at a reasonable rate. We are most proud of the diversity within the studio as well as the popularity we have gained with our community. We have so many different artists that come in and out of our space, and it’s great to see these artists from different walks of life come together for art, fashion and photography. We also have a pretty steady following on our Instagram, which continues to grow daily.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We have a few friends and family members that helped us bring the idea of the studio to life, but we financed, furnished and created the space on our own.
