Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Galvin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Amy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My background is in brand marketing. Early in my career, I worked at large public relations agencies creating branding and PR campaigns for food and nutrition products.
A year into my marriage, my husband wanted to start a luxury real estate brokerage that focused on high-end renters. I was burnt out from the grind of corporate agency life and thought it would be an adventure to co-found the company together.
I understood the luxury segment. I knew a lot about branding and marketing. Plus, I’ve always been someone who can dig in, wear a lot of hats and get the job done. Now, 11 years later I’ve gone from operating out of a home office to running a fifty-person company in a 5,000 square foot office in River North.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, we decided to start a real estate company right before the biggest housing market crash in history, so no, it has not been smooth sailing!
I work with my husband, which is not for everyone. We’ve had to work really hard to ensure there is a balance between our professional and personal relationship. It’s all about communication and setting boundaries. We make sure we have dedicated time to be husband and wife where no work talk is allowed. We also accept that we love what we do and enjoy talking about work with each other.
I started a family while growing a small business. I’ve had to manage the needs of my family with my desire to be a very career-minded person. I have two daughters, and while it’s not easy to be a working mom, I have to believe ultimately I’m setting a great example for my daughters. I also know if I didn’t work, I wouldn’t be true to myself and I wouldn’t be happy. It’s a very personal choice, but this is what works for me.
I’ve also had to learn on the job how to lead and manage a team of young professionals, while still growing and learning myself. They don’t teach you any of this at school.
I’m the first to admit when I don’t have the answer, because I don’t have all the answers. I’ve never run a 50 person company before, but if I don’t know, I’m not afraid to go out and find someone who does.

Luxury Living Chicago Realty is a boutique, luxury real estate brokerage focused on residential rentals. Luxury Living Chicago has worked with thousands of clients and provides market expertise and access to all luxury apartments and condos in downtown Chicago.
