Meet Alyssa Doorhy of CoChic Styling in Bucktown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Doorhy.

Alyssa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I owned a women’s clothing boutique in Lincoln Park-Chicago for four years and really enjoyed styling clients who came into the boutique. I love the fashion industry but decided retail wasn’t for me. It was tough! Personal wardrobe styling was the best next step for me in my career, and I was lucky enough to have some great customers from the boutique who were interested in styling services.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any entrepreneur would say it’s been a smooth road! 🙂 It’s a constant hustle to get clients and to educate people about CoChic Styling’s services, and I’m constantly re-evaluating my process and “sales pitch”. But it’s worth it to be my own boss and to do something I love.

Please tell us about CoChic Styling.
CoChic Styling is a personal wardrobe styling company, offering personal shopping and styling, closet clean outs and wedding wardrobe styling. There is a common misconception that only rich people and celebrities have stylists, but we work with any budget to help style the “everyday” woman who wants to be more comfortable and confident in what she’s wearing.

A unique service that we offer is wedding styling, styling everyone’s wardrobe from the bridal party, to the mother of the bride to the bride’s favorite aunt. We also offer virtual styling services via Skype for people who don’t live in the Chicagoland area.

I’m most proud of CoChic Styling for growing 200% in our second year of business. I look forward to more growth this year, as well!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories is playing “dress up” with my brother and sister when I was probably 5 years old and my twin siblings were 3. We made my poor brother dress in our dancing recital costumes and the photos are hilarious. I guess I’ve always loved dressing up!
