Meet Alvin Yu of Fyusion Dining in Edgewater

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvin Yu.

Alvin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started learning to be a chef at a very young age growing up in a restaurant family. As I worked my way through college, one of the jobs I could always depend on was working in the kitchen.

After graduating from college, I put the knives away and pursued a career in nonprofit service. I would still cook for my friends and would be asked to do celebration events on occasion.

When I moved to Chicago from San Francisco for a job 12 years I go, I knew one person in the city of Chicago, as a way to meet people and continue my passion for cooking, I started Fyusion Dining. As I got into the right circles, the demand for Fyusion Dining services increased and I had to make a decision to pursue cooking again or stay at my nonprofit. Four years ago, I could not fight the fact that cooking is in my blood and grew Fyusion Dining into what it is today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course running a small business is always a struggle and coupled with the volatility of the food service industry, I have been more fortunate than most, given my experience in business, leadership development, and cooking, it felt like every previous job led me to this point.

Fyusion dining is here to help you revisit the dining experience in your daily life by offering innovative customized meals that serve as a catalyst for conversation, sharing and celebration.

Presenting delicious food tailored to your tastes and needs, convenience and an opportunity to savor a dining experience that transcends the norm is what this personal chef service is all about. Fyusion Dining offers traditional Asian, Italian, and French cuisine, in addition to the latest in Fusion, California Cuisine, and Chef Yu’s own unique creations.

I am proud that my company has an emphasis in creating custom menus for a tailored dining experience for our clients. We specialize in infusion of flavors to create specialize cutting edge dishes. using traditional recipe bases and infusing different flavors from all over the world. Serving anywhere between 2 to 400 clients our philosophy of providing them the perfect food to fit their occasion

What were you like growing up?
I was a leader and had a passion for service.

I spent a lot of time volunteering.

As youth I was also a big sports nut, basketball, football, soccer, track, and cross country.

I was a constant learner, always curious about everything, from how it works to how it can help me be a better person.
