Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Zisook Goldstein.
Allison, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Two and a half years ago, I tried painting for the first time in my life. I loved it and couldn’t stop. I had never taken an art class before, so You Tube was my teacher. I came across something on how to paint on a leather jacket. I tried it on one of my daughter’s leather jackets, posted it on Instagram and got a lot of likes. I was hooked and started painting on bags, wallets, anything I could get my hands on. Social Media has helped connect me to clients and now I paint bags for people all over the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There aren’t, a lot of artists, who use designer bags as their canvas. I have learned the process of painting on leather on my own and haven’t had any one to ask questions or get advice from. This is such a unique niche that I’m paving my own way.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I paint on leather goods and sometimes denim. Clients give me their item to be painted, and then we go over their design. (I call my designs “tattoos”). I am known for “tattooing” your bag either with just initials or a whole work of art. I am most proud that I have turned a hobby that I love into a successful business. I am meticulous when painting a client’s item and make sure I am creating something they will love.
What are you most proud of?
I recently did a promotion for Urban Decay Cosmetics that made me really proud. I painted a bunch of suitcases for the country’s top beauty influencers. I have also done events for Jimmy Choo, Instyle Magazine, and been approached by other designer brands.
