Meet Alfredo Salazar-Caro and William Robertson of Digital Museum of Digital Art

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfredo Salazar-Caro anWilliamam Robertson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alfredo and William. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
DiMoDA started in 2013 as William and I were studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). We were both very involved in the underground New Media scene, but we were not seeing the kind of work we were interested in showcased in mainstream Galleries and Museums.

We decided to create a space that could host digital works, not just as a conceptual focus, but also in it’s most native form. When VR became available to developers, we jumped on this tech as the obvious choice to create a Virtual Museum for Virtual works.

Since then, we’ve developed 3 full exhibitions, exhibited in over a dozen cities in 5 continents, had 3000+ downloads and fallen in love with this new medium.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are many interesting challenges when opening new grounds. We are dealing with an artistic medium that has literally not existed in this capacity ever before in history.

Some of these challenges have been about how to establish limits for artists, with a medium that is essentially limitless. How to show Art Collectors that VR works are as compelling (if not more) than any painting or sculpture.

Also, some of our challenges have been about how to become a fully developed institution, purely in the Virtual World.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Digital Museum of Digital Art story. Tell us more about the business.
The Digital Museum of Digital Art is a pioneering virtual institution, dedicated to commissioning, exhibiting, preserving and distributing cutting-edge VR artworks by contemporary artists.

DiMoDA exists virtually as a downloadable museum as well as IRL by partnering with brick and mortar institutions, to present physical installation and events.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We are extremely lucky to have many people believe in our vision and support us, by inviting us to show in a worldwide arena, helping us to buy the equipment needed to develop this kind of work and taking an interest in the content we are building.
