Meet Alejandra Cabrera of Buho Studio in Logan Square and Elgin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Cabrera.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alejandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I lived the first 18 years of my life with the Caribbean shore as my backyard, raised by a Peruvian family in the small island of Dominican Republic. Even though palm trees and ocean fronts offered me endless inspiration, my real journey as a professional truly began once I left. In 2008, I brought myself to New York City, to study documentary filmmaking at the New York Film Academy. In 2009, I traveled to the country of my grandparents, Peru, to study fashion and nude photography at the Peruvian Institute for Art and Design. With each experience came opportunities to grow both personally and professionally which helped shape me as an artist.

With nearly a decade of experience in the visual arts, I now make my bed in the beautiful city of Chicago, an immense cultural hub with countless outlets for the arts. For a creative person, Chicago is a dream come true and it has helped to further my talent and sharpen my vision into what I call Buho Studio; a multidisciplinary creative space where I get to live my life through my lens and share it with others. Cameras are my toys, my passion and I wake up every day eager to put them to use.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I first moved to Chicago, things did not come easy. I took what I could get, but over a period of time, little by little, my hard work paid off.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Buho Studio – what should we know?
I specialize in Wedding Videography. I am the main videographer, and I am the one who edits all of my videos. I make sure to meet all of my clients in person multiple times leading up to the wedding, to make sure everything is as perfect as can be. I like to get know, and have a connection with my clients, and them with me. I feel this makes the entire process run much smoother having a bond with my clients, as opposed to treating it strictly as business.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
To be completely honest… I built this from the ground up. I had nothing when I started this. My will and determination helped me not get in the way of myself to reach my goals. If anything, my mother helped me in the past, by paying for my schooling, giving me that initial push to pursue my dream.
