Meet Adriene Booth of Juju s’amuse USA in West Town

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriene Booth.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have worked in buying, selling and producing men’s, women’s and children’s clothing for 25+ years. After stints on both coasts, I returned to my native Chicago in the late 90s and went on to open a successful children’s clothing store, LMNOP, in Lincoln Park. After owning and operating LMNOP for 13 years, I decided it was time to bring my designs and fashion vision to the women’s market.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Chicago Avenue location is convenient to many parts of the city and has great shops and restaurants, but is still a bit unknown. It has taken time for people to discover the shop and appreciate the uniqueness of the offerings. The response has been wonderful from clients from my previous store as well as the neighborhood. I am hoping more people venture into West Town to discover the independent businesses that make the neighborhood so unique.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Juju s’amuse USA – what should we know?
I opened Juju s’amuse USA in September 2016 to showcase independent French line Juju s’amuse (designed by my good friend Judith Lacroix) and my own line of clothing and accessories, Maybe Is Now. I have always made things, clothing, jewelry, accessories, objects in many different media. At Juju s’amuse USA I have a showcase for my creations as well as an in-store workshop. Many of my pieces use repurposed and up cycled materials. There are vintage jackets reimagined and embellished with beads, ribbon, fabric and patches, wrap skirts utilizing fabrics from around the world, images and words hand embroidered on fabric repurposed from men’s shirts to create patches which I will sew on anything a client wants. Custom orders are available, get your favorite line from a movie, song lyrics, or anything you can think of hand embroidered and sewn onto a jacket or sweatshirt. Or bring in your favorite jean jacket or blazer to have it reimagined. I am constantly creating new pieces and exploring new ideas. The Juju s’amuse line is full of great casual pieces, featuring updated French styling with the use of understated details, color and patterns. Monthly shipments of new styles from Paris keep the inventory changing and expanding throughout the season. The two lines work well together for a stylish, fashion-forward client looking for something unique and affordable.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The uniqueness of the offerings as well as my knowledge of fashion and style.
