Meet Adriana Miranda of Adriana Miranda Art

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Miranda.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From the day my father gave me a paintbrush and canvas to the first sale of one of my pieces, I knew that I got the most satisfaction from sharing my art with others and creating it. Out of my father’s four children, something made him pass on his heart for artwork to me and that has dramatically shaped who I was as I grew up.

Today, I mostly use art as a healthy distraction from my every day stresses, but I also have been becoming more focused on making my talent a business. I took my 5 day a week work schedule and made it one day so I can shift my attention to something that helps me grow.

Has it been a smooth road?
Everyone has heard of an artist’s block or even writer’s block, and this is something I deal with very often. In high school, my art instructor at the time at SAIC (School of the Art Institute of Chicago) told me that my art style was too immature for fine art. Of course, I felt very let down by her critique, but the next week we were shown The Radiant Child, a film after Jean-Michel Basquiat, and after seeing that everything has been much smoother.

Basquiat became my idol and inspiration for all of my work, and I quickly developed my own unique style from seeing his work. The level that Basquiat was on mentally in his work matches my aesthetic perfectly, so much so that sometimes I forgot he was not an actual friend of mine, just a role model that I have never known..

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Adriana Miranda Art – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I actually have not been able to make an actual business of my work, but I look forward to producing art for anyone who seeks it in the future. I did a project for a friend of mine who is founder of Rachel Mautner Interior Design, and that was the moment I knew for sure that my art belongs in peoples homes. I completed two massive pieces for her clients and the result was amazing– I have never been so proud of my work ethic.

The job itself needed to be done much more quickly than other artists would do things, so I dedicated 4-5 hours between working just to finish the pieces. I believe that my ability to communicate, take criticism very well, and connect with my artwork is what made the pieces so beautiful, and what makes all of my art so special.

My number one priority is to make the buyer happy, and also to make sure I am happy. My happiness means that I produced honest work to my full abilities because I find that unless I put in my full effort, I will not be happy with giving away a piece.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Chicago is the greatest city in the U.S. and I will never say otherwise.

Every time I leave the state I miss my city because you cannot find anyone like a Chicagoan anywhere else. Our people are unique, we have a different kind of hustle than others, and we always have each other back in the smallest of situations.

The only thing I don’t like is the neglect of our education system. The times that I was a teacher, I could not stop obsessing over the importance of education to our city. Knowledge is power and the best means of growth in the world, and I believe once all Chicago children are given this tool we will be unstoppable.
