Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Kaplan.
Get a Grip Cycles was founded in 2000 by Kevin Corsello. In 2002, Adam came aboard specifically to work with Kevin to establish Chicago’s first dedicated bike fit studio in an effort to better understand and serve client needs. The fit studio became a gateway to creating long-term relationships with their customers. 17 years later and the formula has proven to be a success. The service is now called Cycling Analysis and it is the first step in helping their clients determine what they truly need first and then they can tailor the bike to suit.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As the fitting service we pioneered in this market gained traction, it became difficult for customers to differentiate between services and find the most experienced fitters. We have had to really be able to articulate our process and value proposition in order to educate our clients.
Most recently, we made a decision to not stock on the sales floor racks of bikes, and instead, require a fit session first to determine the best set up and then order or have fabricated the perfect bike. By not being motivated to just sell what we have on the floor, we are truly unbiased and professional in our recommendations.
Get a Grip Cycles – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in professional Cycling Analysis and Bicycle maintenance and repair. This is what we are best known for and have built our business primarily on word of mouth. We have maintained loyal clients for almost 2 decades.
These professional services extend to all levels and styles of bike. It isn’t just for elite athletes and building $15k bicycles.
We are able to take novice cyclists and work them over the years and help them develop into avid athletes as we have products and services available for all levels. This is unique as most “bike fit studios” only cater to the very high end.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our success comes from our clients experiencing the best ride possible every time they are able to get out on the bike. It brings a smile to our face every time we get an email or a call from a client telling us about all the adventures they have had while on bikes we set up for them.
