Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Alexeev.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved from Russia to Chicago fifteen years ago with my ten-year-old daughter and as immigrants, we faced many challenges. Language was a particularly challenging obstacle. Nevertheless, I was always able to express myself with authenticity and enthusiasm. In Russia I was an attorney, but my qualifications were not recognized in the United States, so I had to switch careers. I knew whatever I pursued needed to be something that I was passionate about, which meant it had to involve helping people. My decision to become a nurse practitioner was the best choice that I have ever made! It took almost a decade to complete my degree, but it was well worth the wait.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to my success was not easy. Over the years, I have overcome many obstacles. As a single mom, I worked odd jobs in order to raise my daughter and continue my education. However, I retained the values which are most true to me. The strongest advice I can give is to dream big! I am an ambitious person, so I dreamed big and just went for it! Sometimes, you have to reroute but challenges are part of the journey. Do not settle for a job that does not make you happy, and follow your heart! You must know who you are to find a career path where you can let your light shine every day. Find a place where you can be happy, and surround yourself with positive people. If you are enthusiastic and passionate people will respond! I believe you can both work hard and be happy but the start is the pursuit of education. I have been in school all my life and I adore it! I have four degrees now and am able to do what I love. Be sure to never stop learning, to make a difference in your life, and make a difference in someone else’s. There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing joy as a result of your work. Last, but not least, I encourage people to smile!
Please tell us about New Image Works medical spa.
I am proud to say that I have recently opened a medical spa in Glenview where I specialize in minimally invasive aesthetic procedures. I am very passionate about the work that I do, and I absolutely love helping my clients look and feel better! I design a unique treatment plan for every patient and we are able to achieve a very natural refreshed look. I spend time with my clients, discussing their wants and how to best help them. I want to make sure my patients are comfortable and happy with their treatment of choice. I also arrange an ongoing follow-up session to ensure the patient’s satisfaction.
Over the years, the stigma around Botox procedures has begun to fade and my clients are more open with their friends about what they do to look good. A common fear among my patients is the misconception that after cosmetic treatments they will not look like themselves. They fear to look like a “real housewife” from a television show. It is important for people to understand that a treatment, when done properly, will not be obvious. It will look as though you are refreshed and well rested as if you have just returned from a good vacation. The best results come from prevention. Light Botox in your younger years will save you from the formation of large wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet, and upper lip lines. Early on, the special technique of microbotox –which is applied to the neck and décolletage – will help improve the elasticity of the skin. These steps are necessary for a natural look.
As we age, beginning in our thirties, we begin to lose facial volume. A good example of this is nasolabial folds, which are caused by mid-face volume loss. If we add a little filler to the cheeks the problem is solved for a long time. The same is true for deflated lips, add a bit of filler and you get years back. The amount of filler does not need to be extreme, it is meant to help revitalize your look, not change it. I want my patients to feel like themselves again, to be healthy and happy following the procedure. The most important part of the process is the trust a patient has in the work we are doing. I prefer for my clients to take time following the consultation in order to make the decision best for them.
While I am immensely happy to have this spa-going, I am also constantly looking to further my education so I can continue giving my patients the best care possible. I believe in the power of learning, so I teach for two major companies within the United States, Allergan, and Nova Threads. I also have the privilege of being a vice chair of the American MedAesthetic Association of Education. I feel very fortunate to be constantly surrounded by incredible people; my patients, my employees, and my mentors.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I love going to conferences and meet professionals who are exceptionally good at what they do. Having an open mind and appreciation for the success of others allows you to learn and advance. So, my advice would be this: try to work, communicate, and associate with people who are better than you (in your field of interest) and you will progress faster than you think possible.
