Tanishia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a licensed nail technician in the state of Illinois. I have worked for some of the top spas such as Elizabeth Arden Spas and also as a personal technician to athletes such as Dwayne Wade, Antoine Walker and others…
I open a nail spa in Chicago’s west loop area NAIL FETISH INC (2007), which serviced many of the area’s professionals. It also was featured in Nails Magazine along with numerous publications several times for its homemade product menu and also the main attraction-a Karaoke Nail Bar! A first in the United States!
During my time in Atlanta, I became a certified makeup artist and worked on many productions of current reality shows on VH1 Real Housewives of Atlanta and BRAVOsMarried to Medicine.
Currently, I work FULLTIME both in Chicago and Atlanta doing nails and makeup and also for a few exclusive agencies in mobile nail care.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

One must stay focused on the craft and be consistent in building their brand.

As a nail technician, my client loves my knowledge of nail care, the skin and my eye for detail.
In terms of makeup, I believe my eye for a natural look sets me apart.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
In the beauty industry, I do feel the playing field is even for both men and women.
