Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosie Scianna.
Rosie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve had a love for makeup since I was a little girl. I started at Nordstrom for Chanel in the mid-90’s then worked for Mac. I was flown to New York by Mac cosmetics for the best training of my life! My career with them lasted almost 10 years. It included TV work, creating the look for Chicago fashion shows, and working with some of the most talented photographers. I then went on my own to travel on location for a lot of Chicago’s Socialites. I now specialize in bridal makeup. I’ve also done makeup for several Vera Wang fashion shows in Chicago.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It takes many years to build a lucrative and steady following of clients. So, you have to be patient. You don’t make money right away. When I left Nordstrom to go on my own, I had almost two years of no income. I promoted my self as much as I could.
Please tell us about Makeup by Rosie.
I provide professional makeup services on women. I also can apply false lashes to a lady the whole day. I am most proud of my loyal clients. I’m known to be professional and the way that I apply makeup on the eyes are my forte.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
There are opportunities out there for everyone! But, in the end, you have to work hard and have determination. Always learn every day. You have to be proactive and go after your dreams!
